Solar Monitoring System
IoT-based monitoring system sponsored by a Chinese energy enterprise.
Example project. This describes the shape a CBIC collaboration takes and the work involved. Partner names, figures and dates are omitted rather than estimated — CBIC publishes those only with the partner's agreement.
The challenge
Rooftop solar is spreading fast across Pakistan, but most installations are invisible after commissioning — owners cannot tell an underperforming string from a dirty panel from a failing inverter until the bill arrives.
How it worked
1The team built a monitoring node measuring per-string output, temperature and irradiance.
2A Chinese energy partner reviewed the electrical design and sensor selection.
3Data was pushed over low-cost connectivity to a dashboard readable by an owner, not only an engineer.
4Alerting focused on the failures that actually occur — soiling, shading, string dropout, inverter faults.
5The design was hardened for rooftop conditions: heat, dust and monsoon exposure.
Technologies involved
- IoT sensor nodes and edge firmware
- MQTT telemetry
- Time-series storage and dashboards
- Power electronics measurement
What the team gained
- A deployed monitoring prototype on a live installation
- Sponsorship covering components and prototyping
- Technical review from an enterprise that builds energy hardware at scale
- A route toward a product rather than a one-off demonstration
If you are submitting a project
Sponsorship follows projects that survive contact with real conditions. Heat, dust and unreliable power are part of the engineering, not an afterthought.
